Small Business California Survey Results

Education, Infrastructure and Health Care Remain Among Top Concerns of Small Business Owners

Despite continuing economic downturn, most small business owners believe they will be in business three years from today.

San Francisco— Small Business California today released the results of its seventh annual survey of small businesses in California. The economy, infrastructure, education and health care are the top issues for small business owners. These issues have consistently been the leading concerns of small business owners during the seven years the survey has been fielded.

“The issues that matter to small business owners the most are not being addressed,” said Scott Hauge, Small Business California president and co-founder. He went on to say “It is time for leaders to get serious about taking on these issues and solving problems.”

Other highlights from the survey include:
• Small business owners are confident in their ability to weather the ongoing economic downturn with 79% of small business owners saying they will be in business three years from today.
• Despite the attention to Federal health care reform, 77% of small businesses are unaware of the small business tax credit in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
• Even though a majority of small businesses had a decrease in revenues during the past year (55%), most of those replying believe the economy is performing about the same or improving (73%).

The survey had 1,366 responses, with a least one response from every county in the State.

The complete results of the small business survey and results of past surveys may be found on Small Business California’s website. The survey was conducted on-line and was in the field from January 19, 2011 to February 17, 2011. The survey is representative of those responding.
